Waiting at the end of a long shaded drive, this landscape for this classic cottage narrates a carefully choreographed unfolding of experience. The arrival circle creates a formal welcome, bridging between the surrounding woods and the front garden’s shady embrace. Moving through porticos between buildings, views to the water are framed and filtered by a mix of native textures and scents. Emerging on the sunny side of the home, mixed stone terraces for sunning, socializing, and dining - and a firepit destination spot - nestle in frothy riots of late-summer color. And finally the view gives way to waves of soft lawn terraces flanked by tall meadow, falling to the shore, cut through with inviting granite steps.
